Laser Circumcision
Bloodless Laser-Assisted Foreskin Removal
What is Laser Circumcision?
Laser Circumcision uses a high-energy laser (CO2 or diode) to incise the foreskin and simultaneously coagulate blood vessels, providing a virtually bloodless circumcision. The laser beam replaces the scalpel, sealing small vessels as it cuts. This results in less intraoperative bleeding, reduced post-operative swelling, and potentially faster healing compared to conventional circumcision, while achieving equivalent cosmetic and functional results. The procedure is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia with a hospital stay of Day Care. Success rates reach >95% in appropriately selected patients at experienced centres.
Patients requesting circumcision who prefer minimal bleeding, rapid healing, and are willing to accept the additional cost of laser technology. Patients must be adequately fit for anaesthesia and free from active systemic infection before proceeding.
How the Procedure Works
Marking & Anaesthesia
Foreskin marked for removal; local or general anaesthesia administered.
Laser Setup
CO2 or diode laser positioned; laser parameters set for incision and coagulation.
Outer Foreskin Incision
Laser used to incise the outer foreskin circumferentially, sealing vessels simultaneously.
Foreskin Removal
Inner preputial skin incised; foreskin removed with minimal blood loss.
Wound Closure
Wound edges apposed with fine absorbable sutures or left for primary healing.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →
Virtually bloodless procedure — laser seals vessels during incision.
- →
Reduced post-operative swelling and haematoma risk.
- →
Faster healing in some patients due to reduced tissue trauma.
- →
Equivalent cosmetic outcome to conventional circumcision.
- →
Day-case procedure with same-day discharge.
- →
Modern technique increasingly preferred by patients for perceived benefits.
"Laser circumcision represents the modern evolution of a classic procedure. The precision and haemostasis the laser provides makes it an appealing option for patients wanting the smoothest possible recovery."
