Nesbit Plication / Penile Plication
Surgical Correction of Penile Curvature by Plication on the Longer Side
What is Nesbit Plication / Penile Plication?
Nesbit Plication and Penile Plication correct penile curvature in Peyronie's disease by shortening the longer (convex) side of the penis using excision ellipses (Nesbit) or plication sutures (modified Nesbit) opposite to the curvature. This straightens the penis without interfering with the plaque. The technique is simple, reliable, and has low complication rates. It is best suited for men with adequate penile length who can afford a small shortening. The procedure is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia with a hospital stay of Day Care.
How the Procedure Works
Penile Degloving & Assessment
Penile degloving under general anaesthesia; artificial erection created to assess curvature degree and location.
Curvature Identification
Point of maximum curvature identified on the dorsal (longer) side.
Nesbit — Ellipse Excision
Nesbit technique: ellipse of tunica albuginea excised; sutures close the defect straightening the penis.
Plication — Suture Technique
Plication technique: multiple plication sutures placed on the longer side without excision of tunica.
Confirmation & Closure
Artificial erection repeated to confirm straightening; wound closed.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Simple procedure with reliable straightening in over 80% of patients.
- →Low complication rate — no incision on the plaque side.
- →Preserves existing erectile function — suitable for men without ED.
- →Day-case procedure with rapid return to normal activities.
- →Can be repeated if residual curvature remains after initial plication.
- →Short operative time compared to plaque excision and grafting procedures.
"Nesbit plication is elegant in its simplicity — we shorten the long side to match the short side, and the penis straightens. For the right patient, it is a reliable and time-tested solution."
