What is Microsurgical Subinguinal Varicocelectomy?

Microsurgical Subinguinal Varicocelectomy is the gold-standard treatment for varicocele, using an operating microscope through a small subinguinal incision. All internal spermatic veins are identified and ligated under magnification while meticulously preserving the testicular artery, lymphatics, and vas deferens. The microscope reduces recurrence rates to less than 1% and preserves testicular blood supply, making it the preferred technique for treating varicocele in the context of male infertility. The procedure is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia with a hospital stay of Day Care. Success rates reach >95% in appropriately selected patients at experienced centres.

Men with clinical varicocele (Grade 2–3), abnormal semen parameters, testicular pain, or primary/secondary male infertility with a correctable varicocele. Patients must be adequately fit for anaesthesia and free from active systemic infection before proceeding.
