Male Sling (AdVance / Virtue)
Minimally Invasive Male Urethral Sling for Mild-to-Moderate Incontinence
What is Male Sling (AdVance / Virtue)?
The Male Urethral Sling (AdVance or Virtue sling) is a minimally invasive procedure for mild-to-moderate post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence. A synthetic mesh tape is placed through small perineal and inner thigh incisions to reposition and support the proximal urethra and membranous urethra, restoring the posterior urethral angle and improving sphincter coaptation. Unlike the AMS 800, the sling does not require a pump mechanism — continence is passive and immediate. The procedure is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia with a hospital stay of Day Care / 1 Day.
How the Procedure Works
Perineal Incision
Perineal incision; bulbar urethra and perineal body dissected to identify the correct repositioning level.
Needle Passage
Helical needles passed through inner thighs to create obturator passage.
Mesh Positioning
Synthetic mesh tape threaded through and positioned beneath the bulbar urethra.
Tensioning
Tape tensioned to achieve posterior urethral repositioning confirmed by cystoscopy.
Wound Closure
Perineal wound closed; catheter placed overnight; discharged next morning.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Passive continence — no pump to learn or operate.
- →Minimally invasive — small perineal and inner thigh incisions.
- →Rapid recovery — most patients home next morning.
- →80% success for mild-to-moderate incontinence in appropriately selected patients.
- →No device activation waiting period — immediate continence effect.
- →Revision to AMS 800 possible if sling achieves insufficient continence.
"The male sling is an elegant, pump-free solution for mild post-prostatectomy incontinence. For the right patient — mild leakage, good sphincter, no radiation — it provides passive continence with a quick recovery and high satisfaction."
