What is Colpocleisis (Le Fort's)?

Le Fort's Colpocleisis is a vaginal obliteration procedure for complete uterovaginal prolapse in elderly women who are no longer sexually active. Strips of vaginal epithelium are excised from the anterior and posterior vaginal walls, and the denuded surfaces are sutured together, obliterating the vaginal canal and supporting the prolapsed organs. It is the most effective vaginal prolapse repair in terms of symptom resolution, and is particularly suitable for frail elderly patients due to its short operative time. The procedure is performed under general or spinal anaesthesia with a hospital stay of 1–2 Days.

Elderly women with complete uterovaginal prolapse who are no longer sexually active and prefer the simplest, most effective surgical option. Patients must be adequately fit for anaesthesia and free from active systemic infection before proceeding.
